Chinese Black and White Jade Rhyton, Ming Dynasty
A Chinese black and white jade rhyton dating from the Ming dynasty. The base of the cup is formed by the open mouth of a guardian lion consuming the walls of the cup. The walls of the cup are decorated with relief carvings of bats and incised ruyi motifs. The mouth of the cup itself has a band of Greek key around the opening. Dimensions are: 4 inches tall X 2 1/2 inches wide, 10.2 cm X 6.4 cm. All measurements are approximate.
