A formal appraisal is a written valuation report prepared for a specific purpose, such as insurance, estate planning, tax, donation, legal, or equitable distribution matters. A formal appraisal usually requires a defined type of value, intended use, effective date, and a report format that meets the applicable requirements. An auction estimate is different. An auction estimate is a preliminary opinion based on the photographs and information provided by the client, current market demand, comparable auction results, our specialist review, and relevant auction strategy. An auction estimate is not the same as a retail price or a formal market valuation. Its setting may also take into consideration auction placement, starting bid strategy, market appeal, and the goal of encouraging active bidding.

At this time, Oakridge Auction Gallery does not provide formal appraisal services. We only provide pre-sale auction estimates for items that may be suitable for consignment and sale through our auction house.

No. Our auction estimates are not formal appraisal reports and should not be used for insurance coverage, tax filing, charitable donation, estate settlement, legal proceedings, or any other official valuation purpose. If you need a formal appraisal for these purposes, we recommend consulting a qualified independent appraiser.

If your item is suitable for further auction consideration, we may provide a suggested auction estimate range and suggested starting bid. These figures are intended to help evaluate potential consignment and auction placement. They do not represent retail replacement value, formal market value, or a guaranteed sale price.
